RHF’S VERSION OF LLAMAS 101

Are you thinking about adding llamas to your family or are you already a new owner but have found limited support from the seller?  If you have minimal or no experience with livestock, we can help you understand the needs of these truly fun animals ensuring their health, safety, and YOUR peace of mind.

We’ll give you guidelines to consider when buying llamas for YOUR purposes.
We cover the basics of Required Nutrition, Herd Health, Breeding Considerations, Fundamental Training, Housing, and Fencing needs.  We’ll even provide our list of favorite sources and resources for llama supplies and information.

We will ask you why YOU want llamas & will do our very best to give you the most realistic feedback so your decision making is fun instead of worrisome.  Within the past 20+ years, our llama herd has numbered over 100 animals and we have utilized pretty much every training technique available.  Herd dynamics and individual animal personalities continue to teach us.  Join us in learning about these unique camelids & see if they’re right for you too!

Ask your situation-specific questions so we can tailor our instruction to your unique needs, and don’t forget photos of your barn (inside view), fields, fences, & llamas.  This is an all-day (Rain or Shine) Hands-On Workshop.  For example, we expect to assist you in haltering a llama and picking a foot up for inspection.  Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., & include the lunch time.  Please bring a bag lunch and beverage for yourself, and appropriate clothing.  We will spend most of the time up the hill in the barn (which can be chilly) and will walk to pastures to view different fencing and llama housing.  We will provide a morning and afternoon snack.  You’ll want pens & paper for note-taking. Cameras & tape-recorders are welcome.

Please leave young children at home or bring a sitter so we are not distracted.  This is a working farm and children may not be left unattended.  And please, NO PETS – do not plan to leave them in your car!

We have been raising quality llamas since 1985.  Should you also be interested in these magical creatures as fleece producers, breeding stock, personal pack animals, or just plain wonderful pets, we invite you to share our joy and knowledge.

Let Llamas Lighten your Load on that trail to a healthier and happy lifestyle.
